Hi, I'm Cooper and I've asked my foster mom Shannon to tell you my story.
I'm a special little fellow and I pray that there is an equally special
person out there who understands that we all have limitations of one sort
or another and who can give me a loving home and the care that I need.
Here is my story. |
|
|
I am a senior, very stately gentleman, with my age being somewhere in
the 13-15 years category. Before my CARE rescue, I was doomed on death
row at a kill shelter, for who wanted to adopt an older fellow who at
the time was in very poor health? I was dehydrated, my teeth were in dire
need of a cleaning, and I had tapeworms. I was dejected and in terrible
spirits, but now after some TLC in my foster home and with my teeth cleaned
and shining, my attitude has improved. I have even been spotted playing
with a ball. I tend to be an independent soul and at this stage of my
life that is not likely to change, but I like to be petted and respond
with purrs and gentle head bumps. I even crawl up into my person's lap.
One of my greatest joys is to seek out the warmer spots in the house and
to contentedly gaze out the window to watch the world going by. I could
probably coexist with other nice cats, but honestly I would prefer to
be by myself and ruler of all that I survey. Do you have a spot in your
home and heart for me to live out my days ensconced in warmth and love?
Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 to learn anything you want to know about
Vittoria's foster boy. |
Rebecca Hey,
Over Here, It's Me Becky! |
Did you know that Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a disease that is not easily spread to other cats and that FIV kitties can live long healthy lives? It is only spread through fighting and "fooling around." Since I am a lover and not a fighter and since I have been spayed, neither of those things is a possibility. So I can live a normal life as an only cat or with a non-FIV kitty, although I prefer boy cats to girls. I am a young (1 year) calico mom who just raised 5 healthy, fat little kittens, none of whom have FIV. My markings and eyes are beautiful and so is my spirit. I relish being with my people and frequently rub against them to emphasize that they are mine. FIV is NOT a death sentence and it should in no way be a bar to my living a long life in a family that appreciates the finer things in life, namely me! Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 about Janet's "Mom of the Year." |
|
Now, don't let my name get me confused with that highly compensated spokescat. I am a humble guy who has endured some very harsh times during my 4 years on this earth. When I came to the rural pound I had some nasty wounds on my face and neck and they had become infected. I almost died, but the angels who work at that pound saved my life by applying hot compresses to my wounds and healing me with words of love and faith. I have not let my trials scar my personality as I have remained very lovable and sweet in spite of them. I like other cats too and am likely to give them a head butt to announce my friendly intentions. I love my foster mom, but I could do without the medicines she gave me, but which I know that I needed. You have only to meet me to appreciate my fine qualities. I will never be a spokescat, but I can be your loving, devoted companion. Don't you think that is enough to qualify me for a life of luxury with you? I have persevered with my gentle nature intact and I'm ready for good fortune to finally come my way. I have been diagnosed with diabetes that my vet is trying to control with diet. Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 to ask about Helen's fine fellow. |
Luvnut |
Special Needs Cat: Can you believe that this is my real name, given to me by people who USED to love and own me? I am a SPECIAL NEEDS CAT. I have tested positive for FIV but have no symptoms (I am 5 years old) AND there is no reason to think I ever will. I need to be an only cat or in a household with other FIV positives. I HAVE NOTHING BUT LOADS OF LOVING TO GIVE. Please don't let me be homeless for long. Call CARE at (804)288-9797. |
Stormy |
I am a gorgeous snowshoe Siamese. Look at my adorable black and white nose! I would love to find a permanent love-filled, calm home. Please call CARE at at (804) 928-1708 to find out more about me. |
|
I am a "10 years young," longhaired beauty queen who has not won a "contest" in a long time. I AM HOMELESS! That is not even being a runner up! I am very petite and dainty and cute and sweet. When my human pets and talks sweetly to me I move my front legs up and down in a little dance of delight. For my thyroid health I must take 1/2 of a very tiny pill twice a day, but it is no big deal to me and I take it easily. I am as gentle and sweet as my face in this photo says I am. Call for Sandy's foster Marmalade. Please, please, and pretty please............... Please call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
![]() Toby *A True Gentle Spirit Survives In A Body A Bit Tattered By His Life Experiences* (Adopted!) |
I am in foster care, which is WONDERFUL. I have lived my short life full of "scrapes and knocks." I have lost most of my tail and have had such badly infected ears that they are partially missing and crimped (AND my vet says that I am probably part Scottish Fold), giving me charm and lots of distinction. (YOU WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER TOBY ANYWHERE!) I am only 2 years old, neutered, litter trained, and a true lover. (Notice the unusual white markings across my face.) I am DIABETIC and we are working toward regulating that by diet. My foster mom is Helen. Call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |

I am a wonderful DECLAWED middle-aged cat. My human dad and his wife are getting a divorce. The wife will NOT keep us, but the husband would like to; however, his job requires that he be out of town for long periods so he cannot. Please save us from you-know-what. We are NOT CARE cats as such, but CARE is trying to help us get a home. My "counterpart" and friend is Cali Cat. We may be adopted separately. Our "Dad" is Johnny. Call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
![]() George *"You Know, This Being Rescued Thing Isn't Half Bad"* (Adopted!) |
I am not quite a year old yet. My life has been one set back after the other. I was living kind of on my own when someone started poisoning all the neighborhood cats. One of us, an orange tabby like me, was shot and put on the porch of its owner. Thank goodness CARE whisked me out of that neighborhood before I became mincemeat too. I am pretty much terrified at the adoption center, but there is no meanness in me and I never would intentionally hurt anyone. I need a lot of understanding and TLC. I LOVE to be given affection. With a little patience, you will not believe how loyal and loving I will be. I never ever want to be unsafe again! Call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
|
|
I am a true blue-blooded CALICO who is extremely sweet. I am a headbutting fiend! I love to be caressed and stroked by humans- rolling around in my bed so you can scratch my chin and pet me. However, I am very fearful if I am taken out of my cage, which has become my comfort zone. There is not a mean bone in me, but I will need lots of TLC so that I can learn to trust again and not be afraid of life in general. I am fine with all other cats (unless they hate me). My age is about one to one and a half. I NEED A FUREVER HOME. Please call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
|
|
My story is the same as that of Black Kat above. Call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
![]() Teenagers (Adopted!) |
There are 6 of us, all tested positive for leukemia but none of us has any signs of the disease. We are overlooked by everyone adopting a cat. We have hearts and souls and feelings and wants and needs, too. We cannot help that our parents made us carriers of the disease one of them had. We may never ever get sick; then, we may. That is up to the Gods and powers greater than us. We could not be sweeter. Anyone interested in learning more or possibly adopting, please call CARE and ask to be referred to Amy, our foster. We can safely be adopted together, as only cats, or with other Feluk positive cats. Three of us already got adopted to a wonderful home.We cannot give anything to dogs or humans. We are technically not CARE cats but CARE volunteers are trying to help Amy place us. |
Abe, the Kitten (Adopted!) |
Special Needs: I have been given a STRONG name by CARE because the volunteers feel that I must have a strong constitution or I would be dead already. I was found wandering slowly down a rural road outside of Richmond. I have 4 deformed feet and 2 deformed legs. Check out the photo carefully. I have been thoroughly examined by a wonderful vet who says that I am fine and can live a normal life, walking strangely as I do. Please call to help me get the perfect home. I want to be safe from now on. Call CARE @ (804)288-9797 |
|
Mischa (Adopted!) |
He is an 8 year old DSH male tabby who has special needs. He is FIV+ and must be an only kitty or live with other FIV+ kitties. If you are looking for a cat who will truly touch your soul with love & companionship look no further. Mischa endearingly touches his face to yours and lays his head on your chest when petted with gentle loving care. Even though he has only one eye, the volunteers would swear they see tears of sadness. He was adopted previously, but had to be returned because his owner’s smoking affected his health. He is a sweetheart and well worth a trip to the Va. Center PetsMart to visit. Call Sue at (804) 467-6528. |
|
Siamese Mix (Adopted!) |
I am a neutered male with clear blue eyes. I am Feluk positive. I am young and healthy. Please give me a chance at a lifetime of happiness. I cannot be around non-feluk cats, but can be an only cat or with other positives. I am no threat to dogs. Feluk cannot be transferred from cat to dog. Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797. |
|
Roxy & Anna (Adopted!) |
Our names are Anna (one eyed female tabby) and Roxy (black female). We are 8 month old FIV Positive kittens who have spent most of our lives at the pound. We are extremely sociable. Roxy (that’s me) loves to give hugs, lick and nibble your neck, and rub your face with mine. My sister Anna is also a sweetheart (of course, it runs in the family). She is adjusting just fine with one eye. We spend many hours playing together and are the best of friends. We can’t wait to start our new life together in a "real" home with people who love us. To visit us at the Va. Center PetsMart call Sue at 467-6528. |
|
|
Special Needs Cat: I have tested positive for FIV but have NO symptoms whatsoever. I should live a nice, long full life. I need to live with another FIV cat or cats or be an only cat. Please give me a life. I really do deserve better than to be tossed aside like trash (my past life was bad but now foster care is good). Call CARE at (804)288-9797. |
|
Dino (Adopted!) |
I am a black DSH approximately 5 years old. I am a big boy with special needs. I am FIV Positive which means I can only be adopted alone or with other FIV kitties. Physically I feel fine, but I am sad because I haven’t found the human comrade to help turn my life around. I will never ask for anything more than a warm lap & loving arms to hold me. Please take my sadness away by visiting me at the Va. Center PetsMart. Call Sue at (804) 467-6528. |
Henry |
I am
a 5-year-old, declawed, neutered male who is very loving and calm and
quiet
and sweet. I am on a special diet available only from the vet. I must have
this the rest of my life. I eat very little and really do need to lose
a
few pounds. I am fine with other cats....but I hate dogs. I have a lovely
gray and white coat. I had my colon and part of my intestines removed and I am doing very well. All due to mega colon. I will need no special treatment once I am fully healed. Please call CARE at (804) 288-9797 to find out how to adopt me (I will be available in April). |
Tarzan |
Well, I do not BEAT MY CHEST, but I AM A REAL GUY (neutered, too)! I am a SHADED SILVER PERSIAN MIX, medium haired beauty. I have HUGE yellow eyes which are round saucers. I was rescued from a local pound on 5/5/04 by CARE. My new foster mom gave me 2 cans of moist turkey which I consumed in about 5 minutes. My body has all my bones sticking out. My foster mom is very upset that I am in such bad shape. I will go to her vet tomorrow and be checked over again (a CARE vet saw me yesterday at the pound and gave me all those shots). I am not sure my age but my guess is about 2 or 3. I am docile, sweet, calm, loving, and was terrified at that pound (and only huddled in the back of my cage praying for someone to remove me). My foster mom has given me an enclosed wonderfully soft cat bed. Boy, do I love her! Call CARE at (804) 288-9797. |
|
Andy |
I am
a special needs cat because I'm FIV
positive. The vet says that it registers only slightly though and I many
never show symptoms. I've been neutered and had all of my vaccinations.
I am extremely affectionate and am very happy with human companionship. If you know of anyone who would be interested in giving him either a permanent or foster home, please call Maggie Carr at 281-2336 (W) or 378-2828 (H). |
Flash
|
My
name is Flash, and I was found in Bryan Park in October 2003. I am about
three-years-old. My hobbies include being petted and playing with toys
that are dangled in front of me. I am FIV positive, but I do not show
symptoms, which means I will probably only carry the disease and not get
sick. It also means that I must either be an only cat, or only live with
other cats that have FIV, so I need a special home. But that's ok, because
I am one special cat! Call Lanell Gardner today at (804) 262-5420 or (804)
334-9761 or CARE at (804) 288-9797 to meet me and see how special I am
for yourself! |
Emily |
Special Needs: Feline Leukemia positive Cat. I am a black and white pretty female, approx. 3-4 years of age. I love to be with people and will get in your lap to get attention and some lovin'. I am playful and sweet. I will put up with other cats, but would rather be alone with my human companions. My owner had to give me up and didn't realize that I have leukemia. But the Vet says I have many healthy years ahead of me. I would love a home of my own! I can live with other cats who also have leukemia, or I should be an only cat and must live indoors. Cats with leukemia can live to be 10 years old or more as long as they stay healthy. My foster mom has two foster leukemia cats, but can't have any more, and can tell you all about how to take care of me. The Vet says I do not need any additional vaccines! I would be happiest in a home with older children. Please call CARE at (804) 288-9797 today if you are interested in adopting me. |
Nadine
|
I am a PERFECT,
black, short-haired cat. I have tested positive for FIV but am totally
healthy and free of any symptoms. I am probably just a carrier. My owner's
husband left and she moved in with a person who would not let me go along.
I must be an inside cat and should be an only cat (dogs are fine and I
like them) unless you already have another FIV+ cat. Then I can have a
friend. My vet did NOT want to KILL ME. So, he did not. Now, I am in DESPERATE
need of that special person/home who wants a wonderful cat. I am about
l l/2 years old only and will give about l5 more years of great loving
to my new owner(s). Call CARE at (804)288-9797. |
Ridley
|
I am an older
Siamese who is an INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETIC. I am neutered with all shots
current, etc. I was found during the hurricane by a kind person who saved
my life. My age is around 8 to l0 according to my new vet. Please call
Helen with CARE if you are interested in adopting me or would like more
information. Her number is (804)355-1357. |
Dino
|
I am an Fiv+
Orange and White kitty (all medicals done), totally non-symptomatic. I
need a home. I have been living at Countryside Vet temporarily. I am NOT
contagious to dogs or people and only to other cats if I bite them. Biting
is NOT my thing, so I am really a nice guy who gets a bad rap just because
I may be a carrier of Fiv+. That is not even a for sure but suspected.
Call Sandy with CARE if any interest in learning more about me. (804)262-5575. |
![]() Othello (Adopted!) |
I’m Othello, and I’m not just a legendary king of Shakespearean times. I am also a strutting, purring, kingly feline who’ll rule your heart as no benevolent dictator could. As my subject you’re required to provide love and attention but I will reciprocate by a factor of ten. Although carrying feline aids makes me necessarily a loner to be kept away from other cats, what king shares his throne? Currently, I am being held captive in a bedroom/dungeon with other insolent cats lurking beyond the door but would be ever grateful to be freed by a gallant soul like you! Handsome and graceful, I still need a permanent home and a warm heart to rule. Please call Adrienne, my Dungeon Keeper, at 804-231-4728. |
|
Roger (Adopted!) |
I AM
A SPECIAL NEEDS CAT. I am a nice neutered
boy about 2 years old. I have not done anything wrong in
my life; however, I am AIDS
POSITIVE. Probably got it from
my mom or dad. I am expected to be a healthy cat with a
projected life span equal to that of any other cat. I can
be adopted as an only cat and make someone a very nice companion. Please
call CARE at (804) 288-9797.
|
| Gracie (Adopted!) |
I am a DECLAWED lady who has been spayed and is current on all my shots. I have long hair, am grey & white, & am a very beautiful girl. I am a Special Needs Cat because I must be the only pet. I am worth it. I am about 4 years old, maybe 5, and I have been living with a lady for 3 years as a pampered pet; she moved and would not take me with her. So, I am up for adoption again. Call CARE at (804) 288-9797. |
|
Larry Kay (Adopted!) |
Hi, my name is Larry Kay and I'd love to be a member of your family. I am a friendly, declawed gentleman with special needs. I am feline aids positive and cannot be with other cats unless they are also aids positive, which is a shame because I love other cats, and dogs too! Please call CARE at (804) 288-9797 to adopt a very special kitty! |
|
Emmy (Adopted!) |
I AM A SPECIAL NEEDS CAT. I have been alone in the woods for over a year; my babies were born dead. A nice lady tried to befriend me but I was too scared. She finally captured me and took me to the vet. I am not going to be a house pet. I will make a great stable/barn/outdoor mouser. When you do gain my trust, you will be able to give me some loving. Maybe, one day I will turn around completely and become a house pet. That isn't a "for sure thing" at this time. Please give me a life of some sort, better than the one I have known. Call CARE at (804) 288-9797. |
| Simone (Adopted!) |
I am a gorgeous short-haired aids positive cat whose owners are moving to England. They took me to their vet to have all my shots and tests done for the move. Guess what? There is a law in England that no aids positive cats can enter. Period! My parent are crying, devastated, hysterical, and miserable... all they want is a good home for me before they leave. Please call Sandy with CARE at (804) 262-5575 or (804) 652-3705 (work) or the CARE line at (804) 288-9797. |
![]() Bennie (Adopted!) |
Bennie, the Prince, the Great, the Best, the Marvelous, the......there are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe me. I am not just saying this; my foster mom is the one who put those words into my mouth. I am black, 9 months old, perfect in all ways. I must be around humans and other cats. I am a SPECIAL NEEDS cat, which means I have an imperfection or special need. In my case, I was born with a floating rib cage. That means whoever gets me must always be gentle with me. But, this medical condition isn't really a problem for me nor will it be for my new owner (whenever that person surfaces, which I hope is soon). Please call Terry about me @ (804)928-1708. Bennie may be in foster care a long time; he has a floating rib cage. He is ready for adoption to a quiet, calm household where he will NOT receive any rough treatment. |
|
Mary Ann (Adopted!) |
I am a BEAUTIFUL spayed female tortoiseshell, about 2 years old. I was at that scary euthanizing pound until my CARE rescue. I have been living for the last year in foster care; but, my foster mom is getting married and moving to Hawaii where the quarantine laws require that any pet be in quarantine for 6 months! She is not going to put me through that trauma, thank goodness. I am VERY LOVING, VERY SWEET, VERY SPECIAL, and VERY HEALTHY. I have tested positive for FIV which is "no big deal" except that no one seems to be willing to adopt me because of it. I have no symptoms and am fine as an only cat or better yet, IF I COULD BE ADOPTED WITH MY BUDDY LARRY KAY, who is also FIV positive and facing the same dilemma as I. (See his write up.) Call CARE @ (804)288-9797 to keep one or both of us from having to be sent to a refuge and live in a large enclosed small fenced outdoor area. (We are currently part of the warm and cozy loving household. We are true pets, pampered and doted upon.) |
|
Tracy (Adopted!) |
I am a wonderful 3 year old DECLAWED spayed FIV positive lady. Please give me a chance to live! I am super sweet and NON-SYMPTOMATIC. I can live many, many years with no medical problems. I must be the only cat because I could be contagious to another cat, not to humans. Call Terry about me @ (804)928-1708. |
|
Lucky (Adopted!) |
I am an FIV positive with NO HEALTH PROBLEMS. I was named by the person who rescued me from the freezing rain and snow. I am a couple years old, neutered, and just had all my shots. I must be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. Also, I will need to be an indoor pet. Sweet as sugar, I am! Call CARE @(804)288-9797. |
|
Nadine (Adopted!) |
I am a BEAUTIFUL, SLEEK SOLID BLACK 7 month old FIV positive. That does not mean that I have a problem; it just means that I test positive for FIV and that I cannot live with other cats. I am not contagious to humans or dogs, only to other cats. I will most likely live a long and very healthy life. My eyes are bright GOLD, absolutely spectacular and very sad at this time. I was up a tree for 3 days before my rescue by CARE. It was below freezing each night and I thought my life would end up in that tree. I am so happy to be safe and warm,......but, I need a special home with special people who will love me for many many years to come. I am super sweet and super loving and just the sweetest little "GEM" you will ever meet. Please adopt me. Call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
![]() ![]() Blind Baby (Adopted!) I was found in November of 200l. I was malnourished and belonged to a "collector" of cats who did not care for me. I am completely blind, having one eye sutured shut and the other has no eyeball and is just closed. Nobody knows if I was born that way or if I lost my eyes because of lack of treatment. I have a great temperament and can find my way around easily. I use the litter box consistently and the litter box should be kept at the same place. I can jump up on furniture and rarely have a problem. I am pure delight. I love being around people. I get along fine with other cats and dogs (if they do not pick on me - sometimes they seem to know that I cannot defend myself). My former owner moved to Boston and could not take me. Please help me get a home! Call CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
|
|
O.J. (Adopted!) |
I am a nice-sized orange tabby who had the misfortune to be an outdoor stray. I stepped off the curb at the wrong time! A car and I collided head on. I ended up at the VEC and was then taken to a quiet foster home with a CARE volunteer for recuperation. Everyone feared I would have permanent head trauma, but I don't. However, I did lose one eye in the accident. (I guess it could have been much worse.) My CARE mommy says I am too sweet and she wishes she could keep me. But, I must "move on". CARE @ (804)288-9797. |
|
Jordan (Adopted!) |
I am the
product of a TORTURE CHAMBER! I am only 8 weeks old,
give or take, and was buried alive up to my neck in mud by some horrible people.
They wanted to see how long it would take me to die. But, before the "burial",
I was burned with cigar butts. I am safely at a local vet and recovering. So
far, I am blind; that may or may not remain the case. The reason is that the
oxygen to my brain was cut off too long by the mud engulfing me. So, please
consider adopting me. Call (804)288-9797 and leave a message for Terry to call
you. UPDATE: Today, November 4, 2002, I was taken to the cat ophthalmologist and given a complete exam. This doctor thinks that I am able to see very large objects and that I am not totally blind. My eyes themselves are perfect. My "seeing" problem is coming from the damage done inside my brain. He says that only time will tell if I will regain some/any/more sight. |
