I am Marley, a lovely tortoiseshell lady 13 years young, and I have lived with Rufus since he was just a little guy. We have known but one human dad, but he has found a new wife and a new home and we are not welcome to go with him because she wants no cat fur in her new home. We cannot believe that we are being discarded like this! We so fear ending up in a pound, where we will surely perish because we are no longer young cats. We may not be young chronologically, but we are healthy and young at heart, even if those hearts are broken right now. Rufus is 11 years old and just a very sweet fellow. I relish being petted and spending time in laps. We are both declawed. We are good cats who do not deserve to be treated as disposable things. Won't you save our lives and allow us to thank you every day for the rest of our lives? Please hurry and call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 to ask Helen about us. |

OK, we have a few miles on us, but oh what a fine pair of ladies we are.
At some point in our 17 years we were declawed (a horrible thing to do
to us) and surrendered to CARE, but it has been so long ago that nobody
can remember why our original people gave us up. We have been in the second
home we have known for the past 5 years, but a new husband has arrived
on the scene and has dictated that we must leave. We don't know why, but
don't think that such a callous act reflects at all well on him. So we
are once again in foster care and praying for the love without reservation
that we deserve. We also pray that we will be able to stay together, since
we have been paired for all of our 17 years, but understand that we may
have to be separated in order for us to find our new and FOREVER homes.
We are in excellent health and are just nice, nice kitties. May we tell
you a little about ourselves? Hi, I'm Louise and in my photo I am voicing my desire to be adopted by a kind person. I am darling and sweet and gentle. My age does not keep me from acting like a young girl and you can see in my photo that I am quite a beautiful lady. I am in good health too, although I am a little too thin and am being served canned kitten foods to bulk me up just a bit. Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 to arrange a visit with Helen's classic cuties. |

I am a senior, very stately gentleman, with my age being somewhere in
the 13-15 years category. Before my CARE rescue, I was doomed on death
row at a kill shelter, for who wanted to adopt an older fellow who at
the time was in very poor health? I was dehydrated, my teeth were in dire
need of a cleaning, and I had tapeworms. I was dejected and in terrible
spirits, but now after some TLC in my foster home and with my teeth cleaned
and shining, my attitude has improved. I have even been spotted playing
with a ball. I tend to be an independent soul and at this stage of my
life that is not likely to change, but I like to be petted and respond
with purrs and gentle head bumps. I even crawl up into my person's lap.
One of my greatest joys is to seek out the warmer spots in the house and
to contentedly gaze out the window to watch the world going by. I could
probably coexist with other nice cats, but honestly I would prefer to
be by myself and ruler of all that I survey. Do you have a spot in your
home and heart for me to live out my days ensconced in warmth and love?

What Can You Say About A Guy Like Max? Gentle, Loyal & Loving- These Are The Facts (Adopted!) |
As I sit here in my nice warm cat perch watching the snow fall outside the window, I thought I would dictate my biographical information to my CARE friend. In my mature years (I am now 10+ years old) I lost my home and found myself struggling to survive on the streets. When my rescuer saved me I was thin as a rail. She took me in out of the winter cold and has fattened me up to a robust almost 10 pounds. My foster mom describes me as "nice as they come," and I'd have to say that it true. I now purr with regularity, take great delight in being petted, and affectionately rub my handsome head against the nearest leg. Much to my foster mom's surprise, last night I ended up on her pillow. I'm so glad that her other kitties took it in stride. My philosophy is that with age come sagacity and an understanding of and appreciation for what's truly important in life. For me life's essential ingredient is having someone to love me unconditionally and for me to return that love- with interest! With proper care and copious amounts of love, we kitties can live to be 20 years old, so I hope to have many more years to spend with you. Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 to make Sandy's marvelous Max your own. |
Hank *He And His Sister Were Discarded At The Pound- Left To Die, But CARE Could Not Leave These Seniors There* (Adopted!) |
I am l5 years old, and in an almost unbelievably callous act, I and my sister
Lady were turned into a Kill Shelter by our "family" on Dec. 8,
2006. We stayed there until early February when CARE rescued us both. I
had to spend a week on IV's getting nourishment and hydration. I had lost
a lot of weight. I am beginning to eat better and am gaining back some weight.
I am very sweet and get along with other cats. I really am no trouble, just
asking for one can of wet food per day plus some dry. I know the reality
for senior cats- that it is will be very difficult for us to find loving,
permanent homes, but that is our heartfelt wish. I pray that each of us
will be adopted by a person with a giving heart and allowed to live out
our days with someone who will not ever abandon us. That kindness will be
repaid many times over through the knowledge that two lost souls were saved.

Lady *He And His Sister Were Discarded At The Pound- Left To Die, But CARE Could Not Leave These Seniors There* (Adopted!) |
I am Hank's 15 year old sister. My story is the same as his except that
I never stopped eating and have maintained my weight (11 pounds) throughout
this horrible "pound" ordeal. I am very, very sweet. Even though we are
not young, we can give our person much love and devotion. Adopting either
or both of us would be a VERY GOOD DEED that surely will be rewarded.

I am NOT a CARE cat, but have had all my medicals as do the CARE cats. I came from a guardian who was required by law to give up some of her pets. She was only allowed to keep three so she kept the 3 oldest dogs. All of her pets were special needs or old. I am cute, healthy, extremely active and playful, and want 100% of your attention. I am a super-soft chocolate brown tortie with beautiful green eyes. I am approximately 12 years young and love to play with my "Daddy Long Legs" toy, carrying it around in my mouth like a dog. I'm very talkative and make little "peep" noises like a baby bird..... So, please adopt Tess. Call CARE @ (804) 288- 9797 and ask about Amanda's foster Tess. |

I am a LONGHAIRED PUREBRED MAINE COON who is black with white feet and bib (A Tuxedo). I am also wonderful, middle-aged, and DECLAWED. My human dad and his wife are getting a divorce. The wife will NOT keep us, but "Dad" would like to; however, his job requires that he be out of town for long periods so he cannot. Please save us from you-know-what. We are NOT CARE cats as such, but CARE is trying to help us get a home. My "counterpart" and friend is Cali Cat. Our "Dad" is Johnny. Call CARE @(804) 288-9797. |

I am very gentle & the ultimate lap cat. Please don’t discount me because of my age. I will be worth every ounce of love you can give. I’ll be here waiting for you at the Va. Center PetsMart. Slippers (Adopted!) |
My little white "mittens" on my 4 feet are darling....small, petite, fluffy, soft footsies...I have a second name which is "Soft Paws". My white twisted whiskers give me a distinguished look. My owner was taken into a nursing home and her relatives did not want me. SO, off to the cold cages in the local euthanized pound for me! Can you believe that scenario? I am 9 years YOUNG, ready for anything, waiting to be adopted. I get along fine with other cats, play with the laser light beam and toy mice, eat dry food, sleep wherever, and purr on cue. Call CARE @ (804) 288-9797. |

I am a distinguished 12-year-old gentleman with almost all black fur, with the exception of a few white toes on one back paw. I have many more years or love to give my new home, so please don't pass me by due to my age! I love to be around people, and I am very active. I like other cats, but would be best in a household without small children or dogs. Please give me a good home today! Call Sue with CARE at (804) 467-6528. |

I am a spayed female pastel calico, 10-years-young, and ready to be your best friend! My goal in life is to find a permanent, quiet, comfortable home where I will be loved and cherished! I am sweet, and I like to be petted gently. I look unhappy in this picture, but don't let that fool you! Once I am out of this cage, I am a different kitty all together! Call Sue with CARE at (804) 467-6528 to adopt me. |

Rikki
Tikki |
I am a middle-aged shorthaired mainly white spayed female cat whose owner DECLAWED me way back when. I still remember the pain of that awful surgery. I have a brother named Rikki Tikki who is about l/2 white and l/2 blackish gray. Our owner of all these years just didn't want us any longer because one of us had a litter box accident. Guess what??? CARE got us out of the KILL SHELTER just before we were to be euthanized AND I HAD A HORRIBLE URINARY INFECTION COMPLETE WITH LARGE CRYSTALS. No wonder I had an accident! Anyhow, I am going to be ready for a new life with someone who really cares about me (I hope), as is my brother Rikki Tikki (declawed, too) very soon. It is not too early to visit us. We are devastated at what our life has become. We were not worth a visit to the vet! CARE volunteers DO CARE ABOUT US. We will not be too easy to adopt because we are not cute kittens or playful youngster. We are settled and wise and have lots of history behind us. Our souls are filled with forgiveness instead of hate and anger. Please call CARE at (804) 288-9797. |
Dink |
I love to give and receive affection and I crave lots of attention. My hobbies include being petted by a special person or curling up in a lap. I'm thirteen-years-old, but am extremely healthy. I am spayed and my front paws are declawed. I would be great with children or an elderly person because there is not a mean bone in my body!! Call CARE at (804) 288-9797 or Jennifer at (804)350-3404. |
Kayley |
I am middle-aged and without a home for the first time in my life. All of the change in my life right now really scares me. I will adjust slowly to a new home, but I will greatly love anyone who takes the time to get to know me and who allows me to take my time to get used to my new surroundings. You will be surprised. Please take pity on me and give me a love-filled, permanent home. Call Sandy with CARE at (804)262-5575. |
Senior
Citizens |
CARE has just
taken in five, middle-aged cats whose owner died. They range in age
from 5 to 8, and one is 13. These lovely, healthy animals don't deserve
to be homeless! Their owner prayed someone would give each and every
one of them a good home forever and ever. One is orange and white;
one is a lovely shorthaired tabby; one is a solid black, large, overweight
female who is about l3-years-old and very upset about losing both
her owner and her home. She will need extra time and care. And there
are two more who are very well adjusted and playful, happy, super
pets. They are just a bit harder to adopt because most people don't
want to adopt a cat with a little age on it. If you can provide a
good home to one or more of these sweet cats, please call CARE at
804-282-9797. |

Sly (Adopted!) |
I am a DECLAWED lovely cat whose owner died. No one wants me any more. My life and future are bleak. I am not young. I was found in an alley in l989, so you can do the math. I am pictured here in the grass but have lived my whole life inside (only outside long enough for this photo). I have played with dogs' tails off and on and have never exhibited any aggression toward other cats. Please call (804) 748-2826 or CARE at (804)288-9797. I will be a pleasure to whomever calls to adopt me....hopefully for many years to come. |
