Want to make someone very happy while giving yourself such a good feeling? Please donate cat, kitten, puppy & dog food (new and sealed packages only please), and bird seed too, to the Central Virginia Foodbank. The economic crisis has hit so many families very hard and many struggle to feed their pets as well as themselves. C.A.R.E. has been donating pet foods, but could use your help. The gratitude of the people receiving the donated food is so fulfilling. There are people who will deny themselves food in order to be able to buy food for their animal companions. You may bring your pet food donations to the C.A.R.E. adoption stand at the Short Pump Petsmart on Saturdays and we will deliver it or you may donate directly to the Foodbank at 1415 Rhoadmiller St., Richmond.

Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the rehabilitation, care, and adoption of cats and kittens rescued from euthanizing animal shelters in the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area.

FOSTER HOMES DESPERATELY NEEDED!

We never have enough foster homes for all the cats that we are attempting to save. Little Hank, pictured here, and his mom, Julie, are just two of them. Luckily they have both been adopted, but there are many just like them that need your help. C.A.R.E. covers the expenses and you provide the love and security that will save lives. For more information about fostering please contact us at (804) 288-9797 or email us @ Volunteer@care-cats.org.

Foster Cats Enjoying Their Foster Home
Saving lives by fostering is rewarding, but it can be a lot of fun too. What could be more fun than a cat tree full of cats? Two of these guys were rescued when a person was evicted leaving 17 cats behind. The other was rescued from a Taco Bell parking lot.

Newman the cat was found with all of his legs and feet in horrible condition, swollen and full of puss and infection. It was thought from the nature of his injuries that he had been thrown from a vehicle. The vet feared all 4 legs might require amputation and so gave little hope that he could be saved.    The wonderful vet, Dr. Zuccaro, did everything he could and kept the cat at his clinic for a month or more.  Newman pulled through and eventually lost only one leg.
He is doing fine now and is happily living a wonderful life with his loving guardian Mrs. P.

Newman's medical costs, even after a significant discount, exceeded $1000. Your donation will help C.A.R.E. save the Newmans of the world.

C.A.R.E. is dedicated to rescuing cats and kittens from local pounds; these cats and kittens have almost no chance at adoption by the public.

Please consider sending C.A.R.E. a donation. We have many cats waiting to be brought into our “safe” system. We need money to CARE for them. The medical expenses are our major expense. The average cat leaving C.A.R.E. has cost our organization over $200 before adoption.

Donation suggestions:
$200 - covers all expenses for the average cat with no major medical problems
$l00 - covers 12 rabies shots for 12 cats
$50 - covers one spay for a female
$30 - covers one neuter for a male cat
$10 - covers a FDRC (required) shot immunizing the cat against many diseases
$5 - covers de-worming one cat

Barn/Stable Situations Wanted:
Desperate Need

Some cats don't make good house pets but they need and deserve a good life. Please call Sandy with CARE at (804)262-5575 if you have a barn/stable and can offer a good home to one or more of these cats.

William Matthews and Donna Parsons adopted 2 CARE kitties over 3 years ago, and they say that the boys enrich their lives every day and are a part of their every day activity. William and Donna operate Maiden Studio, a mosaic art studio located in Maidens in Goochland County. Donna is a nationally recognized mosaic artist and one of her creations is “Gato’s Mirror.” This design has been incorporated into a high quality tote bag that is certain to appeal to all cat lovers. Maiden Studio is graciously donating to CARE for every bag that sells, whether wholesale or retail. Please visit www.maidenstudio.com for more details and to purchase this beautiful item. We should also mention that Gato is one of the cats adopted from CARE.
