The cats on this page have not been taken into the C.A.R.E. system, often simply because we do not have room in our foster homes. However, we are trying to lend a "helping paw" by devoting space here to them. If you are interested in adopting one of these wonderful felines, the contact information for each is given in that cat's narrative.

Claudio

Now Listen Up, Turn Up That Audio
Hear All About This Sweet Guy Claudio

I have to find a new home because, try as I might, I just don't get along with other boy cats. The home into which my dad is moving already has a male cat in it and it appears that I have drawn the short straw. I am a 3 year old gray tabby and all around sweet guy, who is timid in a new environment but who warms up quickly. I love a lot of attention but true to my species I prefer it on my own terms. While I'm not a lap cat, I think that lying next to you while you watch TV or read or cuddling with you at night are every bit as important. I will give you head bumps, will rub against you, and put my head under your hand to encourage you to pet me. When my dad comes home, I'm there to greet him. When I become nervous or scared I will hide in a cabinet. Didn't know that some cats can open and close cabinet doors did you? My not so secret and harmless vice is catnip; I love the stuff and could be called a bit of a nip head. To learn more about me and to give me my forever home please call Jamie at (804) 514-2206.

Ms. Kitty

Whether It's Rural Or In The City
Won't You Give A Home To Sweet Ms. Kitty?

I was born in Tennessee, but relocated to Virginia when I secured the position of beloved companion to a very special grandmother. It is sad, but true, that I have outlived my gentle person and now I must find not only a new guardian, but a new home as well. I am a young for my age 10 and my favorite pastimes with my human mom were sitting next to her on the sofa watching TV or snuggling up next to her in bad at night. I like a quiet house without children or other cats. Nice dogs are interesting to me and tolerable. I would thrive in a home that needs the love and company of a furry friend. I do not have front claws, but I do have a cute little rump unadorned by the tail you find on ordinary cats. Please give me the opportunity to share my days and love with you. Please call Sara at (804) 539-9253 and she can tell you more about me and arrange for us to meet.

Sammy

Mandy

Approach With Caution, You Must Beware
Lest Your Heart Be Lost To This Loving Pair

Our momma cat and 3 siblings were trapped a while back and since our rescue we have been living with our foster mom Wanda's family. We are about 5 ½ months old as of 9-22 and have been neutered and provided with all the vaccinations that we should have. We found polite society pretty alien and off putting at first, but we have developed into very loving and sweet kitties. There's nothing like the love and gentle attention of someone like our foster mom to convince a cat that the world is a good place after all. Sammy is such a baby boy, reveling in having mom hold him like a baby and sing to him. He likes everyone, including our family's little dog Sassy. Mandy is a bit more reserved, but she is equally loving and gentle. Please call Wanda at 804-218-0955 to arrange to meet us. We know that you will fall in love and give us that forever home that we have been praying for.

Moe

CeCe

MY (Mellow Yellow)
Loving Kittens- MY, CeCe, & Handsome Moe
Each Is Special & Will Love You So

Hi, we are siblings and would like to be adopted together because we love to play with each other. But we know this is probably impossible, so just as long as we can find 3 good, warm homes with people to love each of us! We are 4 months old (April Fool's babies) and were born to a neighborhood stray. Some kind people have kept us and our mother fed and well in health. She said she would spay/neuter us through PAL on August 21st. If you can love us and give us a good home, please call my people at 540-872-2320 and leave a message.

Cooper (Declawed)

What Could Possibly Be More Super
Than Hangin' With Sweet Mr. Cooper

Hi, I'm Cooper and I am some 16 pounds of big handsome boy cat. I have beautiful plush long black fur with sable highlights and great eyes. You are surely asking yourself why a wonderful cat like me is in need of a new home. Well, the problem is that I require a home where I am the only cat. While I am fine with dogs, that's not the case with other felines. Other than that one minor flaw, I am very affectionate and loving, and I even love to play fetch! I am totally up to date on my vaccinations and my parents have always made sure that I had good veterinary care. To learn more about me and then to take me home with you, please call Susan at (804) 370-1836.

Cammie

Please Don't Walk, You Should Run
To The Girl Wearing The Number One

It's as clear as the nose on your face, or rather it's as clear as the number 1 on my face; I'm the girl for you! My present mom and dad call me Little One for the golden numeral that sits on my nose and over my right eye. For reasons that I don't really understand I have to leave my human family which includes two children aged 11 and 15, another older female cat, and Guss the big poodle. I tend to be on the reserved and bashful side, but I am very, very loving. It will take me a little while to adjust to a new home, but what a cuddler I'll be once I am confident of my new surroundings. I have always been strictly an indoor kitty and that cannot change. Other than that, as is the case with many cats, I have had the occasional urinary tract infection. For that reason I should be on a food designed to prevent them and even if I get one, it is easily cleared up with a course of antibiotics. My mom says that I am very easy to give pills to. I am 3 years old as of 5-4-09 and am just a good little girl. For more information about making me an integral and important part of your family, please call Dr. O'Sullivan at Countryside Vet (804) 750-1694. Just tell him you want to talk about a new home for Cammie.

Jamie

Little Kitty (Adopted!)
They're Homeless Now- It's A Pity
But It's Your Chance For A Loving Kitty

Our person is no longer able to care for us and blessedly the kind folks at Quioccasin Veterinary have taken us in and are bestowing much love on us. We are up to date on all our medicals and the only thing we need is a loving, forever home of our own. We are making the best of our new situation in life, but do you have room in your heart and home for either or both of us?
Jamie: I am a wonderful and youthful looking orange and white girl who still plays like a kitten. I am also very, very affectionate and would be the light of anyone's life.
Little Kitty: My name is a bit of a misnomer, because I am not quite little. What I am is extremely affectionate and very regal in appearance. I am still playful too. At only about 8 years old, I should have many years of sharing love and companionship with you. To meet us contact Quioccasin Vet @ (804) 741-3200.

Autumn (Declawed)
"Now Can't You Just Feel Autumn In The Air?"

My name is Autumn and it is true to my gorgeous colors. I am a longer haired tortie tab, in the prime of my life at only 8 years of age, and now I must find another home as my new human brother is allergic to me. While I am skittish with strangers at first and will hide, once I get used to you I just love being a lap kitty. My mom works from home and I am always by her. I come with litter box, kitty tower, and food and all you have to supply is lots of love and understanding and a forever home. To meet me contact Wendy at (804) 739-4649.

Andy

Ellie

Leo
Just Focus Those Eyes & You Will See
Just How Precious Are These Kittens Three
(All are Adopted!)

We are 10 weeks old as of 9-15 and were born in our foster mom's parent's backyard. We have been fully vetted and are healthy, unbelievably sweet, and anxious to have forever homes.
Andy: I am an extremely affectionate and gentle guy adorned with the cutest pink nose. I have the endearing habit of just gazing adoringly up at my person. I am courageous and will bond with you in no time at all. My new home should have a kitty companion for me and I am comfortable with cat friendly dogs and with children.
Ellie: I am a bit on the timid side, but oh what a sweet and docile disposition I have. I revel in being held like the baby that I am and have an inquisitive and intelligent personality. Like Leo, I love the company of other kitties and am good with cat friendly children and dogs.
Leo: I am the purrfect combination of playful personality and loving nature. It will take no time at all for us to become lifelong companions and I like other cats and cat friendly dogs and children just as much as my brother and sister do.
For more information or to arrange to meet us please contact Anna at 703-395-5618 or at anna.oberoi@gmail.com.

SWK (Sweet White Kitty)
"Now What Else Would You Call Such A Fine Girl Kitty? Adopt And Love Me And You Can Call Me Anything You Wish."
(Adopted!)

I am going by the initials SWK (sweet white kitty) and the vet thinks I am about a year old. I have been spayed, given all my shots, de-ticked/wormed/flea preventative and do not have feline AIDS. I use my litter box perfectly. During the last six weeks, my foster parents have helped me with some shyness and I love to be stroked especially on my head and neck. I will lean up against them, but am not quite a lap kitty yet. I have been introduced to their four other cats and was initially quite scared, but I'm getting a bit more courageous each day. I think I would prefer a home without other animals or young children at least until I feel comfortable with the lay of the land. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact Heather at (804) 897-5680.

Moo (Declawed)
Now Why Would I Be Named Mr. Moo?
I Know It Will Be Obvious To You.

I was brought to my vet by my people on Saturday, April 17th. They wanted the vet to put me down because I was "grumpy" and was not getting along with their young child. Turns out, I was only grumpy because I was completely infested with fleas! The good doctors at Sycamore Animal Hospital refused to honor the request of the people I belonged to and told them they would take me into their custody, clean me up, and assist in finding me a new home. I am a veteran guy, approximately 10 years old, and a good sized fellow at 16 pounds! However, don't let my size intimidate you, because I am a true sweetheart. I love to be petted and giving head butts. I am fine with being picked up and particularly enjoy being kissed on top of my head. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact Sycamore Animal Hospital in Midlothian at (804) 794-3778.
P.S. Moo does not like dogs! He apologizes for this but wants you know, up front, in case you are interested!

Mimi
A 3 year old beautiful girl who likes to play, roll on her back & rub a leg

I used to live with a lady who took good care of me. She kept me inside at night and let me out during the day. She had me spayed and made sure I got my shots. (My veterinary records are available.) But my mistress got sick and had to go to the hospital, and then she had to go to a nursing home. Now she needs to stay in an assisted living home. Cats are not allowed there. So I am currently confined to a crate in an unheated garage attached to the house of my former mistress’ brother. I can’t go in the house because the family has allergies. I can survive there for a while because it doesn’t get below freezing cold and I have a “Snuggle Safe” warmer, but it’s cold , isolated, and NO FUN!!! I get to go out on a harness and lead twice a day, but I can’t go in the house and I can’t go in the yard! PLEASE ADOPT ME!! I’d love to get a real home and family for Christmas. To learn more about me, please call Rick at (804) 837-1746.

Bubby (Declawed)
Now Did You Say Bubby, or Bubbly?

I am a very handsome declawed Persian boy, born in March of 2002, who is in need of a new and I hope quiet home. While I am very loving and friendly, I tend to be shy when there are a lot of people around. I am very playful and very much enjoy running after toys and playing with yarn or string. I am not wild about being held for long periods or being brushed, but I very much like having my belly rubbed. And of course eating is one of my favorite pasttimes. I am totally current on all of my vaccinations. I have lately been an outside cat and my family is moving to a place where that is not possible. Perhaps in your single cat, peaceful home I can live inside where it is safe and secure, particularly since I have no front claws to defend myself with. To learn more about me, please call Jeff and Katie Kraft at (804) 798-3301 (H) or (804) 627-3562.

Honey
*Sweet As Her Name But This Confection Will Not Add Any Calories*

I am a gray Maltese, approximately 9-10 years old. I have tested positive for FIV, so I cannot live with other cats unless they are also FIV+. FIV+ and non FIV+ cats can live together if they are peaceful with one another and there is no fighting. I do not require any additional medical or special care- just a caring and loving family looking for a lovable lap cat in need of a new home. I am declawed in the front, spayed, and litter box-trained. For more information about me please call Troy at (804) 938-5689.

Jag (Declawed)

Callie (Declawed)
Adopt These Great Cats- Callie & Jag
You'll Be So Happy, Your Tail Will Wag!
(Both are Adopted!)

My name is "Jag" and I am a very friendly 8 year old indoor only cat that lived most of my life with my sister Callie. Unfortunately, our loving owners decided to make the difficult yet responsible decision to put me up for adoption. They loved and cared for me very much, but could not financially care for me anymore. Even though my sister and I would love to be adopted together we understand that sometimes that is not possible. I only hope to one day be adopted and make a family very happy. I am up-to-date on all my vaccinations, neutered, indoor only is where I like to play, and recently had complete blood work done that was all normal. I love to have my ears scratched, am very active, and definitely an attention hog. I will do whatever I can to get someone to pet me.
I am "Callie", a lovely calico lady 8 years young, and I have lived with Jag since we were little. Like Jag, our owners decided to put me up for adoption because they could not financially take care of me anymore. I would love to be adopted with my brother, but understand that sometimes it is not possible. My only wish is to make a family very happy by showering them with all my love and rough-tongue kitty kisses. I am also up-to-date on all my vaccinations, spayed, indoor only is where I like to play, and recently had complete blood work done that was all normal. Some of my favorite past times are sitting in windows and watching all the outside critters, being brushed, and showing my two legged friends affection.
Please contact Quioccasin Veterinary Hospital at (804) 741-3200 if you have any questions or to schedule an appointment to come play with us. You'll be glad that you did!

Frankie
You Can Just Call Her "Young Blue Eyes"
(Adopted!)

"Hi, my name is Frankie and I am 2 years old with beautiful medium length fur and gorgeous blue eyes. I have been spayed, have tested negative for leukemia and FIV, and am up to date on all vaccines thanks to CARE. Here is my sad story.
Imagine that you have a family and one day you wake up and you realize that you are all alone- the furniture is still in the apartment but the people are gone. A day goes by , then 2 , then 3- you eat all the food and water and are now pawing the cabinets open under the sink - eating cleaning products and drinking out of a dirty toilet. You cry but no one hears you -you are completely deaf so it seems even lonelier. Finally someone comes- but it's only the maintenance man and the apartment manager- you can't hear that they are talking about animal control and the pound. You don't know what that means- they don't know you can't hear. The animal control truck comes and you are being carried out - it looks scary. Then you see another lady - it turns out she's nice -her name is Emily - she looks like she's getting angry - and then the truck goes away. I'm being carried by the lady- I'm so happy to sleep in a warm bed and have food and water and someone who understands my disability. But sadly she can't keep me because she has 4 cats in an apartment where she is only supposed to have 2, so I have to go. Is there someone out there who could love me even though I'm not perfect? I can't hear but I am a good and sweet kitty. I have lots of love to give although I am shy at first and once I get to know you I like to come to you. I don't like other cats and dogs frighten me but a little dog might be ok. Little children have been mean to me, but I like the older ones. I really want a family of my own again. I guess I will never know why my family left me behind with no explanation but I am ready for a new forever family. Please call my foster mom Emily to ask about me (804)-245-4991. am a lovely girl cat aged 1 to 2 years. Along with my stunning blue eyes I have plush medium length white hair. My rescuer cannot keep me and is looking for a forever home where I will be loved. To learn more about me, please call Emily at (804) 245-4991."

Angel

Sissy
Sweethearts Ready To Ensnare Your Heart
(Adopted!)

We are two wonderful kitties who were abandoned by our people approximately one year ago. We have been living at our veterinarian's office ever since, although our foster mom brought us to her home on Dec. 15 because she couldn't bear for us to spend one more day in a cage! I, Angel, am a six year old long haired orange and white girl with the most beautiful face you've ever seen. Sissy is a ten year old short haired all black girl, although she does have a couple white hairs on her chest. We are both in excellent health, have been spayed, and are up to date on all our shots. Sissy has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and takes a quarter of a Pepcid every other day. It really is totally manageable- the pills are very small and you can even buy generic Pepcid for virtually nothing. Personally, I feel this could be due to her stress level and it could well calm down once she is in a permanent home. Being caged for much of the time for a whole year is stressful, believe me! We are both very friendly and purr the minute we see you! I even chirp when I purr. We get along with dogs and would probably be fine with other cats. We haven't been with our foster mom's cats, but we see them through the window and it doesn't bother us at all. We really have fun personalities. We must be adopted together. Our adoption fee is $150, which will go to the veterinary clinic that has safe housed us for so long. What a small investment to return so much love! Mom says that she will consider adoptions within a three hour driving radius of Richmond! To learn more about us, please contact Whitney at whitneyfogg@comcast.net or 804-513-9881.

Izzy
*Survived Rough Times & Ready For The Good Life In Your Family*
(Adopted!)

I am a 4 year old who was rescued by a very nice lady after Hurricane Isabelle. I was so thin and weak then, but am very robust now. I am not officially a CARE cat, but they are trying to help me find a home. I like to rub against legs, be petted, and can be picked up now. I am a nice cat, but my rescuer had a cat of her own already who can not tolerate a newcomer. So I can not go inside, where I really want to be. Please contact Mary Short @(804)790-1167 for more information about me.

Sophia
*She's Feline Leukemia Positive, But As With Many Felv+ Cats, She Is One Of The Sweetest Cats Alive*
(Adopted!)

I am Felv+ but am the sweetest, funniest cat ever. I have lots of personality, am healthy and am very playful. I love to have my belly rubbed and talk or trill all of the time. I am a major lap cat also. My foster mom says that I crack her up. I am a pastel tortie around 2 years old. I can't believe someone just dumped me! I am quite the character! Please call Marie at (804) 264-7235 for more information and to meet me.

Tom
A Tom Cat In Name Only
(Adopted!)

I am 26 pounds of pure love who is fine with other cats. My human died and no one wanted me. I was turned into a rural pound from which almost no adoptions occur. A dog rescue group saved my life and they have asked CARE to help find me a forever home. You know those black bears that have been sighted recently in our area? Well, I look almost like one except that I am totally domesticated and much more huggable. Every ounce of my 26 pounds is sweet and gentle. Please call CARE @ (804) 288-9797 with your information and they will pass it on to my rescuer.

Quicksilver
Fleet Of Foot And Mercurial Of Mood- What Better Name For A Handsome Young Guy?
(Adopted!)

I am young and vibrant, at the grand old age of one year. I have had tests showing that I am leukemia and FIV negative, and have had a rabies shot recently. I have been neutered, and hold a degree in sociology. OK, maybe not the sociology degree, but the rest is true- we have papers. I am solid white with blue eyes, have a long and lean frame, and am seriously looking for a good home where I am the only cat. I tolerate some dogs, but with other cats I can be aggressive. I am extremely playful but my play can be a bit on the rough side, so children could be considered a snack. I am loving and like lap time, am very, very funny to have around, and am an intrepid explorer of everything I can open. (Another talent!) I would be a terrific companion with the right person. My foster dad says that he has had the pleasure of the company of a feline with similar attributes, and he knows for a fact that some love and some time in an only cat atmosphere is far more worthwhile than words can say. Unfortunately, I just cannot integrate into a household with another cat. For more information about me, please call Mike @(804)217-7187.

Zoe
*Now How Could Anyone Be Allergic To A Face Like This One? Or As Zoe Says, "Take A Pill!!"
(Zoe Has Her Home!)

I am a beautiful girl tabby cat. I am a good, sweet kitty who must find another home as my guardian for all of my 10 years is engaged to a man who is allergic to felines, including me! Although I was born in a barn, I am accustomed to the indoor life. Lounging in sunny spots, bird watching, bug catching, and trying to finally catch the light from the moving flashlight are just some of my favorite pastimes. I won’t hesitate to cuddle up to you for a good scratch behind the ears as I love attention. I have lived with dogs but don't necessarily want to play with the little beasts- dogs can be a little gnarly don't you know. I am a mellow cat who would greatly enjoy an older family and a quiet home. Do you think that you would have room in your heart for me? For more information, please email Julia @juliab@roslyncenter.org or call her at 804-928-5607.

Jack (Kitten)
Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick
And By Your Side He'll Stick
(Adopted!)

I am a little guy, approximately 7-8 weeks old as of 5-31, who had very nasty respiratory and eye infections when my human mom saved me. I am entirely well now and have tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. I have impeccable litter box manners. A typical part of my day is to run, jump and play, play some more, and then play some more. Then, when I have worn myself out, I am ready to be held and snuggled, accompanied by some serious purring. I am going to be a handsome man when I grow up and plan on loving my family with all my gentle heart. For more information about me, please call Denise @(804)852-4662

Pearl
A Pearl Of Incalculable Value
(Adopted!)

I am a SOLID WHITE LONGHAIRED 8 year old girl who desperately needs a home! My family is moving about 30 miles and have turned me into a kill shelter with the excuse, "we are moving." I so badly wanted to go with them! The kennel mistress at the pound says that I am one of the sweetest cats she has EVER had in her place. She is begging someone to adopt me. I am medically totally up to date and ready to leave this hard steel cage. If interested, call Janet with CARE @(804) 266-5516- PLEASE!. CARE can arrange to deliver me to my new family. By the way, I am a totally inside cat, having never put my feet outdoors.

Nancy
*She Can Bring Senior Benefits To You And You To Her*
(Adopted!)

I am a 15 year old calico MISERABLE cat. Please forgive this photo of me, but it pretty much reflects how unhappy I am with my life now. I am not officially a CARE cat and am at a rural Virginia pound. CARE is hoping that some kind person will call or email to adopt me and then just let me live out what is left of my life with someone who cares about me. I used to live with another cat so will probably be fine with other cats. I am traumatized by being at this pound and sometimes out of fear I hiss and snarl, but the ladies who work here love on me and say that I am temperamental, but nice. I am not a bad cat, but you can imagine how frightened you would be if you lost your home and family at this advanced stage of your life. I don't know what is to become of me and am just very SCARED. Call CARE @ (804) 288- 9797 to learn what you can do to bring me to safety. Knowing that you helped this forlorn soul will fill you with good feelings.

Tess

*Young At Heart And So Loving*
(Adopted!)

I am NOT a CARE cat, but have had all my medicals as do the CARE cats. I came from a guardian who was required by law to give up some of her pets. She was only allowed to keep three so she kept the 3 oldest dogs. All of her pets were special needs or old. I am cute, healthy, extremely active and playful, and want 100% of your attention. I am a super-soft chocolate brown tortie with beautiful green eyes. I am approximately 12 years young and love to play with my "Daddy Long Legs" toy, carrying it around in my mouth like a dog. I'm very talkative and make little "peep" noises like a baby bird..... So, please adopt Tess. Call CARE @ (804) 288- 9797 and ask about Amanda's foster Tess.

KiKi
*The Cat Who Came To Dinner*
(Adopted!)

I am a 2 year old girl who showed up on the doorstep, ran in the open door, and haven't looked back. I had a problem with my eye that a $260 vet bill and lots of eye drops and attention fixed. I now have a clean bill of health. I'm a bright-eyed, talkative, spayed calico kitty who is playful at times - yet also serene, and who would make someone a great pet. I get along well with other kitties (my rescuer has two rescued strays in a tiny apartment - otherwise she would keep me). I am petite with a beautiful medium coat of which I take immaculate care. Warning- I am a Purr Monster! For information about me, contact Julie at (804) 674-2141.
