We live for happy endings at CARE and this short story ended perfectly when Eric Cosley came to a CARE foster home to visit a kitten he saw on the care-cats.org website. Another little kitten, a yellow long-haired handsome fella named BobbieKat, decided this was his opportunity to get a new family. He commanded attention by wrestling other kittens and sauntering around like a WWF champion. With all that personality and cuteness, Eric didn't stand a chance. He adopted BobbieKat and took him to surprise Melinda, his girlfriend who wanted a kitten of her own. Eric has an adopted rescue cat, age two named Big Boy. |

To all our friends at CARE and our Foster Mom, Janet. Just fur you....MEEE-OOW!!!!!!
We celebrated our 2nd birthday about a month ago and wanted to let
you know that we are still "feline" fine. There have been no cat--astrophies!
We love our family and see our sister, Malakai - who lives in Vienna,
VA - quite often. She didn't get to our "purr-ty" - which was pretty
tiring - but we sent her our picture (attached) and purred to her
over the phone. Thanks, again, for finding us these purr-fect families
and homes. They say "Hi!" (that's "people talk" for mee-oow). |

Hello
Sandy, Just wanted to say hi and let you know that Oliver who is now
renamed Harley is just the most lovely boy that I could ever want.
He is enjoying being spoiled rotten in my apartment with a lot of
love. He enjoys sitting in the sunshine or relaxing with me on my
patio. The vet here at Shady Grove is also totally in love with him
( Dr. Garland). I am so happy he is part of my family. |

Enclosed is a photo of Sugar. We adopted her in Oct. '07 thru CARE. She has provided us with hours of good times watching her antics! Thanks for your help finding a kitty for our family. Gail Smith |

Just wanted to let you know that Melba (Nina) and Hazel (Lillie) are doing great. Lillie was immediately friendly and was ready to take over the house. Nina hid under the bed for 2 days, then finally came out to visit, but skittered away at the slightest motion. She is now very friendly and talkative, and FINALLY likes to be petted. Lillie is the leader, and makes sure Nina is behaving. Anyway, they are doing great. John and Meredyth |

Betty Edmonds and her husband adopted Autumn, a beautiful calico and have called to let her foster mom, Dianne, know that she has settled into their home with 2 dogs, Princess, a cocker spaniel, and a lab named Trouble. They have another calico female, Little Callie, also adopted from CARE. Autumn, now Big Callie, follows Betty around like a dog and has a wonderful personality. When Betty and her daughter visited Autumn at the adoption center, this sweet calico was not happy at being there; she bit Betty and scratched her daughter. Undaunted, Betty visited her again, saw through the angry display, and decided to take her home. As they say, the rest is history. This proves that the love and security a cat or kitten finds in a good home can make a big difference in their personality and actions. Thank you Betty and family for the love and care you give to all your furry family members. The Edmonds even built their home in Goochland to be cat friendly. They had extra wide window sills constructed so the cats would have a comfortable place to sit and watch nature outside. |

Tameka Reaves saw Dolly Grace on our CARE adoption page on the website. They met and at Dolly's foster home and it was mutual love at first sight. Tameka and her husband have a new home that has room for their miniture pinscher and Dolly Grace. They both grew up with cats and Dolly Grace is a very lucky to have this wonderful home. |

We
wanted to update you on Josie. We adopted Mariah, who we now call
Josie, last April, 2007. Mariah and Miranda had been rescued by CARE
from a kill shelter. Josie is the one that ended up having her tail
amputated. We have had her for almost a year now. Josie was extremely
shy and lived under our bed for about 2 weeks. It took 2 1/2 months
for her to come downstairs. Although she still gets a little skittish
from time to time she has settled in wonderfully. She loves to hop
up on the table when we first get home so she can stretch out and
get her tummy rubbed. She really isn't a lap kitty, but would rather
prefer to lay beside us- making sure we turn just the right way so
she can settle in. She enjoys sleeping curled up on the bed each night.
And her favorite thing is running and playing with her toy mice. When
she runs she sounds like an entire herd of cats! She enjoys kisses
as well - especially if she is very sleepy. She has come a long way
in the past year. We know next year there will be even more of a difference.
She really does crave love and attention - and she is getting it!!!
Thank you for rescuing her! |

This is Kiss Kiss formerly known as Edmund.
We adopted him from the Short Pump Petsmart about 8 months ago and
he's doing very well. This is one of his favorite places, the bathroom
sink. He spends his days playing non stop, perching in the windows
around the house and playing with his sister Lady the chihuahua. He's
always in a good mood and alot of fun. Were happy to have him and
can't imagine life now without him. From the moment we saw him we
knew he was very special. Thanks C.A.R.E. |

Hi
CARE friends! It's me Billy Bob and I have wonderful news that I would
like to share!
I'm starting to think he has an addiction though. Mom moved them to
the top of the fridge but he just had to have the magnets!!! I
don't play too much with my brother Milo....cause....well..this is
all he does.... SLEEP
SLEEP SLEEP!......My brother Osiris is the same way! But he has found
a weird way to take a nap.... At
least my sister Hemingway plays with me. I just love her! My
brother Buster is a bit of a camera hog, but as you can see mom loves
to take pictures of us.. Well
friends... I think I am going to follow in the paws of my lazy siblings
and take a nap...

Thanks again for helping me find a home and for helping all my other cat friends find good homes! |

Hi! I adopted a very sweet kitten named
Sadie (previously Velvet) from C.A.R.E in October, and I thought that
I would write to let ya'll that she is doing great! She is growing
so much, partly because she is such a big eater! She loves Law & Order
SVU (that is what she is watching in one of the pictures that I sent),
playing in fresh-from-the-dryer laundry, anything with feathers, and
her frequent encounters with the cat that lives in the mirror. The
picture of her taken in front of the TV was taken the day that I got
her, the close up was taken after I had her for one month, and the
one on the ironing board (her favorite spot for watching me when I
am cleaning or working around the house) was taken in January. I will
be sending more soon! She is so affectionate; she loves to be held
and has a purr so strong that it definitely does not fit her petite
frame! Thank you, CARE, for helping me to find such a special addition
to my home! |

Dear members of CARE- |

Ron Jennings and his children adopted our beautiful Francesca. Ron grew up with cats and because of travel in his career has not been able to have pets for the past few years. He now works closer to home and started looking for the perfect feline. Francesca with her sweet personality and beauty was just what he needed. His children agree and they immediately became friends. Francesca's foster mom, Dianne, said it was really hard to part with this special houseguest. |

Ralph and Susan Effinger wanted to add to their feline family. After viewing our website, they knew they wanted to meet Little Murphee, a 4 month old orange tabby boy, and his sister, Pepper, a beautiful girl with lush black fur and golden eyes. Of course, they couldn't resist the charm of two kittens and took them home to meet Sneakers, an adult female they found in a drain pipe, and Kharman Ghia, a shy older girl. Their love has encompassed Cotton who died from age related disease and Smokey Joe, also deceased. It seems Smokey Joe was a hero, waking the family when carbon monoxide saturated the apartment they were living in waiting for a home to be built. He bit noses and used force to wake the couple who were overcome with the fumes. They were able to get Smokey Joe and their children from the home for medical care. |

Hi Helen, Just a quick note to let you know Winston (aka Jake) and
Mike are doing great!! I couldn't be happier with how well and how
quickly they have adjusted to their new home and have accepted us
as their new family. I followed your advice to keep them in one room
for a week. Now we are at the point where they have full run of the
house and boy are they having a blast! !! I bought one of those cat
towers plus lots of toys so they have tons to play with and we have
a large house so they have plenty of room to run around and chase
each other. They are so funny to watch! I'm really glad we adopted
both of them. For one it made the transition less scary and secondly
they have one another for companionship. They truly have bonded ...
you rarely see one cat without the other not far behind. Separately,
Mikey has adopted me I think. He follows me all over the house like
a puppy. He sits on my desk while I try to work or else he climbs
up into a recliner I have in my office and sleeps there while I work.
At night he sleeps at the foot of my bed along with my dog Buddy or
else up on the pillow between me and Chad. Winston has adopted my
mom and Ryan. He takes turns sleeping in their rooms although he seems
to really like Ryan. Sometimes both cats sleep with Ryan. But most
importantly, the cats and dogs are getting along fine. |

The Duran family, Julia, Amy 13, Timmy 9, and Christina 7, came to pick out a kitten for Christina, age 7. They played with all the kittens and picked a handsome orange and white male named Rhylee. Almost 4 months old, Rhylee was long and lean with a very long tail and great personality. The first night in his new home, Rhylee slept at Julia's head and settled in. They report that Rhylee crawls all over everything and rubs noses with Buddy Boy the dog. He is very talkative and refuses to be left behind anywhere. He has a huge appetite and wants a taste of everything the family eats. They report that he continues to be as silly as he was as a kitten and is quite a jokester. The Durans have two other CARE alumni, Misty and Savannah, in their home, and this beautiful family has opened their hearts to one more. |

We adopted "Sarah" and "Petey" from Janet almost 2 weeks ago. We've renamed them "Raja" (Sarah) and "Rivah" (Petey). They're having a great time getting into stuff at our house. It only took them about a day to get adjusted to their new surroundings. Thought you might like a few photos! Here you go... Steve |

Oliver and Daisy were adopted from CARE as kittens by Debbie and Rich
Harrison, with whom they are much loved and spoiled. |

Word has it that her mom Lorraine is smitten with Mitzie (formerly
Mittens) and with a face like this one, who could blame her? |

Hi, My name is Dottie, I was adopted from Care Cats a year ago by
my mom Kathryn Gustavson and she wanted to tell all of you that I
am a good girl and she loves me very much. She also wanted to send
you a picture of me and my baby brother, he just came to us a month
ago. Oh and I have a secret for you.....but don't tell mom I said
so "I am the queen of this castle" shhhhh! |

The black cat in the picture with Ernie is Ariel- she came from the Charlottesville SPCA. She took to Ernie immediately when I brought him home. She grooms him, plays with him, sleeps with him. I believe that she thinks he is her kitten. She was pregnant when she was dropped off at the shelter and her kittens were aborted. Needless to say, Ernie loves all the attention. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas! |

We adopted Jesse (aka Fluff) for my grandfather on 11/24/07. Jesse
is a quiet, shy, 2 y.o. boy who likes a calm environment. He still
prefers to spend most of the day tucked safely underneath the sunroom
couch... but, when afternoon approaches, Jesse likes to curl up in
"Daddy Dan's" lap. They are perfect for each other... Jesse needed
a quiet, safe home and Daddy Dan needed Jesse's companionship. Both
have blossomed in each other's company!! |

MAURICIO (Maury--we call him Mr. Mo) has found a home. I adopted Maury
at Short Pump PetSmart last Sat. (11/10/07). He's a sweetheart and
is settling into his new home nicely. We're gradually introducing
him to our 13 yr. old Daisy. He's a rag doll...when you pick him up,
he sinks into your arms and loves to have his tummy rubbed. His quiet,
laid back personality is a perfect fit for us. Thank you, Jane, for
being a good foster mom to him until we met him. |

Just wanted to update you about my little calico beauty, adopted on
October 6th. After trying out many names, she has decided to respond
best to Molly, and is frequently "Molly-Doll", you can guess why.
She's settled in with my two other cats and made herself at home!
Thanks for this beautiful kitten, Sharen |

Hi, My name is Mark Sands and my wife and I adopted Emma ( please
see attached photo) on 9/01/07 at the Pet smart in Short pump. She
has brought much happiness and joy to our lives and we are so happy
to have her in our lives. We are do to have her spayed this week and
look forward to much happiness with her. I just wanted to drop you
a line to tell you how happy we are with our adoption. Thanks! |

Hi, ,just wanted to give you an update on Miss Jenny-Grace and send
along a couple of pictures. We've finally moved into our new home
and it's great. There are wonderful large windows with a windowseat
in the living area. It looks out on a deck that I've planted pansies
in the backyard, hung wind chimes, a birdbath and lots of bird feeders
along with a couple of birdhouses. We're ready for a busy winter of
"sight seeing" with our winged neighbors! She has a favorite toy that
you see in one of the pictures. When I went to a business conference
in Nashville they passed out earplugs for use at a concert. I brought
them home to her (they were attached to one another with a string)
and she loved them! Of course they finally wore out so I went to Walmart
and got a package and we made our own. She brings it to me (just in
case I'm not tuned in to her play schedule!) when she's ready to play!
What fun, I can hardly keep up with her! She gets more comfortable
with being close (still not in my lap - I've pretty much given up
on that). But that's okay. She's the best! Take care, and keep up
the good work! Patty and Jenny-Grace |

This is from Amy, who adopted Owen. "My name is Owen, and I wanted to send CARE a note to thank them for giving my kitty family a better life. We were living in the woods and these caring people fed us for awhile until we were able to be trapped. My mom (who is feral) has been spayed and has gone to her forever home in Goochland with lots of land, living a safe life with a steady meal and never having to have kittens again. I had an upper respiratory infection and an umbilical hernia when I was trapped, but with medical treatment I'm in mint condition. My siblings and I have been adopted to great families. I was such a handsome kitty that I won the heart of my foster mom and she decided to keep me. I joined another CARE brother cat, we are great buddies, and a sister, who is also a rescue and is still trying to get used to my high energy ways...I wanted to send some pics of how handsome I am now, I'm orange and white...I was 3 months old when I was rescued, and I'm now about 6 months old. Thank you to CARE for all of their hard work and dedication to end homelessness and suffering of undeserving cats. |

Hello, I was just writing to thank you. This past March I adopted
a tabby named Emily from your Pet-Smart location. I have since made
a slight change in her name to Emaline but she is still the same playful
cat. I live by myself but she has become my new roommate. I always
look forward to seeing her when I come home. I've attached a few pictures
of her as well. And I also wanted to thank you all for the wonderful
work you're doing of finding great pets loving homes. And only wish
the best. -Rachel Gropper |

Jack's adoptive mom, Ashley, had reservations about
how well "mean" older sister Molly would get along with
Jack, the new member of the family. After a period of adjustment,
this photo evidences that they are doing just fine together. Thank
you Ashley for taking Jack to your heart. |

Dino was adopted from CARE about 6 years ago. During the night he
decided that the clothes for his mom's grandchild were not packed
to his satisfaction. He was heard to say, "Now that's better!" |

Here are CARE's parking lot girls. Both were semi-feral when they
were rescued, Belle from a Taco Bell lot and Beautiful Girl from Westminster
Canterbury's. With countless hours of patience and more love than
you would think possible, they have both settled into their new home.
They are loving girls now and very spoiled, and it is all due to the
amazing efforts of their mom, Patti. |

Here are the pictures of Midnight and Stripes(Lionheart). We got her
from you in May of 2005, my son kept her name that you had given to
her and him in August 2007. He is fitting in very well. His foster
mom Ashley must have really worked with him. He is so sweet. I call
him a cuddle bug. He likes to lay on my chest and wrap around my neck
to sleep. He loves to be held and doesn't like to be in a room by
himself. He really likes my 6 year old son, you have to be very tolerant
to deal with a young child. Stripes follows him around. Midnight loves
to lay in the chair next to my son (Hunter) as well. Even though she
is a cat she still has a shoe fetish. Every time you take off shoes
she has to lay and sniff all over them. The one picture is Hunter,
Midnight and Stripes all laying in the chair. Stripes has his paws
touching Midnight. Major progress for only being here a couple of
days. Thank you again for both of these cats. They are very sweet. |

In September 2006, we went in to PetSmart to look for a black kitten.
We settled on one, Miles, (formerly Burke) and had the adoption set
up. Upon arriving and visiting with him we fell in love instantly.
After all the paper work was completed we were getting ready to leave
when Miles' cage mate, a kitten named Dexter, (formerly Hopeful) stood
up against the cage and started meowing. As soon as we stepped out
of the store we knew that we had to get him too. We called the volunteer
back. However she had already left, so we set up an appointment to
go back and get him the following Monday. Today Miles and Dexter are
doing wonderful in their new home and have even made a new puppy friend.
They are getting big so quickly. Its hard to believe that it has almost
been a year since we got them. Miles loves to crawl underneath the
blanket at night and curl up next to you, while Dexter lays at your
feet. I thought you guys at CARE might like to know how they have
turned out. Thank you so much for two wonderful kittens. Paula and

"I love them with all of my heart and soul, I really do. Chloe,
the one I adopted from you (Helen), is my little shadow...she loves
to be brushed, get in bed with me...she is just a doll! Both of my
torties are stunning...and they are the nicest cats, I don't know
why torties get such a bad rap!" |

Just
wanted to let you know that William and Toby have settled in nicely
and are doing very well. William is voicing his opinions loudly, sleeping
on his back iwth his feet in the air and continuing to gnaw holes
in the bottom of any cat food bag that he can get to. He's a very
personable and affectionate fellow. Whether on his back or in a more
conventional position, he always looks so relaxed when he sleeps.
He enjoys playing with cat's tails, including his own, and playing
with the water stream in the water fountain. He also greatly appreciates
having his face groomed and encourages it by licking fingers. Toby's
quite the inquisitive fellow and has explored every cabinet and climbed
most of the artificial mountains in the house. He doesn't seek out
affection quite as often as William, but when he does he makes the
most of it. He loves to be stroked and often requests it in the middle
of the night. He's also a top-notch chow hound and puts away his dinner
in a fraction of the time it takes the other cats, leaving him plenty
of time to nose into the others' dishes. As I hoped, the two have
become very good romping buddies, which is a good thing since the
other cats in the house are generally past their roughhousing days.
Their wrestling matches and hide-and-seek-and-pounce games are great
fun to watch. The 6-foot cat tree in the living room is very popular,
and Toby is frequently in the top spot. He and William have shared
it on occasion, but both have grown in the few weeks I've had them,
so they may run out of room soon. |

Hi
Dianne, I am sorry it has taken so long to get back in touch with
you, life really gets hectic at times. Rennie and Andy are now Frank
and Oscar. They are doing great. They both have really opened up and
become very affectionate. They are a joy to watch. They play until
they wear themselves out! I am sending some pictures for you to enjoy.
Have a wonderful summer. Jenette and David |

got a new canine brother in addition to a new loving home. |

I want to let you know the two tabbies that you sent home with us
last Saturday are settling in very nicely. The one that seemed shy
at PetSmart has not been shy since we got home! And the bolder one
wants to be the alpha cat of all three. Our two year old cat, who
is fairly large, seems fine with being a playful kitten again. We
will send you some pictures in a day or two. Thanks very much for
all your help. |

Hi Donna... oh my goodness..,.. Cocoa Kitty is so funny... bad little
thing but funny. She is a DADDY's girl. She must have spent some time
around dogs because she acts like one. She steals food from my son's
plate... carries food out of her bowl and moves it to another location
to eat it... fetches toys. We love her so much... she has the best
personality... but she is always getting into trouble. She is however
a good natured kitty... she allows my husband to clip her nails and
she talks up a storm... especially to him. She still loves to be brushed
and loves for us to take the lint roller to her even more! Ashley |

In March 2007, we adopted a sweet little kitten named "Willie" from
CARE. In fact, his picture is still on the CARE website showing "Adopted."
We got him from his Foster Mom, Dianne. I thought you guys (especially
Dianne) might want to see how much he has grown and flourished in
his new home. He has blended in as a loving and welcome member of
the family. All of us (especially my children, Paul and Heather) give
him constant attention and have really bonded with him. We thank the
folks at CARE so much for all you do and for providing us with our
newest member of our family! We were unsure if we wanted a new kitten
but, we are SOOOO glad that we called! Jean, Very happy cat owner!

After meeting four CARE kittens, daughters Maggie and Maddie fell
in love with Lulu and Jackson (and it was obviously mutual). Maggie
has wanted a kitten since she was a very little girl but had developed
hives around cats at that time. Recently, the family visited Maggie's
aunt who has a cat that slept with the girls without any hives or
allergies, and so the search was begun to find the perfect kittens
for their household. They have a dog that plays with a friend's gerbil,
so he now has his very own playmates. Being a foster might mean disrupting
your Sunday to show a cat or kittens. However, to see a very happy
family taking two healthy CARE kittens to a wonderful home situation
makes it so worthwhile. |
|
|
Several CARE cats are very happy since being adopted into a permanent
home, as evidenced by this daily "scene." We have Johnny, Coalie,
Dino, Harry, Jonathan, and Mark. They lead such a hard life now! |
|
|
As Mariah, the CARE cat, this calico beauty was extremely shy. Although
she was very timid, she was also very gentle. No matter how scared
she was at the adoption center, she never hissed, scratched, or tried
to bite. We felt that all she needed was someone patient and understanding
and that she would blossom once she knew that she was in a loving
home from which she would never be separated. On April 21 along came
Cathie and Randy, who were still grieving the recent death of their
beloved boy cat. They visited with Mariah for quite some time and
we CARE volunteers could see that if anyone was going to be able to
bring her out of her shell, it would be them. We are so grateful that
they decided to adopt her. She is now Josie and in a relatively short
period of time she is doing better with Cathie and Randy than we expected.
On 5-7 Cathie related the following: "She has improved greatly.
The last 3 nights she has been sleeping on the bed with us. Not the
entire night, but she sleeps awhile (often right up against me) and
then hops down to play some and then back up she comes again. She'll
come right up to both of our faces to see if we're awake and if we'll
pet her. She comes out often when I'm sitting on the floor and plays
with me. She still is skittish but I can't believe how much she has
come around just in these 2 weeks. I'm spending lots of hours up in
the room but it seems to be paying off. Just this morning she came
right out to me and then hopped up on the bed. I'm thinking she's
realizing that's a much more comfortable place than the floor! |

Mee-ow!!! We just saw a great picture of our Foster Mom, Janet, and
the family read the nice article about her. We just wanted her to
know that we are still around and remember her purrr-fectly. Our sister,
Malakai (she's the "different color" one), lives in Vienna, VA most
of the time, but she visits quite frequently, and you can see by our
pictures that we are still "family.". This is our favorite chair
and sometimes all three of us sleep in it - but then you can't tell
us apart. Purrs and meows to all our friends at CARE. Mai Ling and
Tai Ling |
|
|
This photo of Frenchie was taken on her very first day in her new
home. As you can see, it did not take her any time at all to feel
comfortable and loved there. |
|
|
Dear Janet, It has been a while since we have updated you on Mallory,
so I wanted to let you know how she's doing. She is fat as a butterball!
So getting her to eat is no longer an issue. It's now getting her
to stop! She's become a lot more playful and occasionally plays hide
& seek with us. We have really gotten to like her sweet side. We still
see her "defensive" side from time to time though. The vacuum is her
worst enemy! She is doing great now and we really enjoy having her.
She brings us lots of laughs and company. She is quite the lap cat.
I've enclosed some pictures for you. Hope you are well! Sarah |
|
|
Dear Andrea, I have loved having Dottie around, she is a heart warmer.
When she meows, it is like she hasn't seen me in forever! Dottie loves
the toys that she has! We love watching her do twists, turns, and
even some flips! She is a very talented kitten. Well, now she loves
getting into the shower and the sink. I hope your cats are doing well.
Cya soon! Love, Lindsey |

Hi everybody! Just wanted send a quick update about Myra. Myra spends
her days lounging on my bed or her other favorite spots, and playing
with her furry mouse or my hair rubberbands. She's actually so obsessed
with my hair bands that once she spots one in my hair she won't take
her eyes off it and goes after it until I admit defeat and toss it
on the floor (then she promptly loses it under the fridge). Myra follows
me around, chatting in her expressive little kitty voice, always managing
to communicate exactly what she thinks or wants. Usually she wants
food, or a hair band -- or for me to wake up. She sleeps in the crook
of my arm, and when I hit snooze on my alarm for the ninth time I
look up to her big buggy eyes inches from my face and I hear the "get
the hell up!" meow. I don't know how I ever lived without her furry
little presence! Myra (who is right here snuggling) and I are so grateful
to all of you dedicated souls at CARE who give these kitties a second
chance! |
|

Cheryl, I just can not thank all of you ...you and Sheri and Jane...enough for pairing Theresa and my mom! They have bonded so quickly and my mother is absolutely thrilled to have her! We are calling her Reesie (like the peanut butter cups!) We thought it at least had the "RE" sound in it from the middle of Theresa and my daughter just loved the name! Anyway, from what I am hearing EVERY MORNING (ha!...Mom has to call me every morning now with "Reesie updates!"), they are providing some warm and wonderful company for each other. They have a morning ritual of sitting on the sofa, Reesie in Mom's lap, getting her morning petting and loving and just purring away. Mom said that this morning, when Reesie saw her coming down the hallway, she ran over to the sofa and sat down right there waiting for her because she knew what was coming! Isn't that precious! I just could not be more pleased! She is exactly what my mom needed in her life. And I credit each of you for making it possible, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. It certainly is a wonderful success story and I would love for it to maybe reach someone else who may be thinking about adopting from CARE. Keep up the outstanding jobs you are all doing! Because take it from me, you are not only helping the cats you place, but you are also helping the people who get them to fill that "empty" void that they may have in their life. A VERY BIG THANK YOU! Sincerely, Lee Ann Update- I have tried to send a few of the more recent pictures and of their very favorite playtime activity which they spend hours a day doing together! And if they aren't playing with their shiny little wand playtoy, Reesie is in her lap! It is just precious. They truly have developed a very strong bond towards each other which I definitely think they BOTH needed. |

This is Blackjack who was adopted by Jessica and her family. She says
that he is wonderful! His 1 1/2 year old declawed
brother, identical to Blackjack except for a small white patch on
his chest, is available for adoption. He is a great cat too. For information
please call Helen @ (804) 355-1357. |

My husband and I adopted "Bernie" from the Short Pump PetSmart in
August/September 2006. He is now known as Kingsford and he has been
a wonderful addition to our family. He and our other cat, Bandit,
get along perfectly...for the most part :). We have since relocated
back home to New Hampshire. He has adjusted well and happily chases
snowflakes at the window. I have attached a picture of Kingsford alone
and one with him and Bandit. I can't believe he is already nearly
a year old. Thank you for all the work you do. Sincerely, Sarah. |

I would just like to say THANKS for all your organization does for
cats and for people. My daughters and I love animals. We have 5 cats
and a dog. Two of the cats are feral that I trapped years ago. The
other 3 live inside with us. Mira aka Darby- she is a wonderful cat,
who we adopted from your organization back in Sept. of '05. Raven-
last summer my girls went to the grocery store to pick up something
for me and came back with a 8 week old kitten- she is a joy. And finally-
Lucy a/k/a China- who we just adopted yesterday from your organization.
We already love her- I can’t say the same about the other 2 cats yet-
but they will be fine in a few days. We will do all we can do to send
folks your way to find themselves a great companion as well as raise
monies for your cause. My daughters and I will be having a yard sale
soon and we plan to raise funds for your organization and a dog rescue-
we will send what we earn. God Bless you for all you do. Carole |

I wanted to let you know that Sylvester has made himself right at
home here...On Saturday night, even with a house full of company,
he wanted to come out of the room we had him in...needless to say
he has not been shut in that room anymore. He is using the potty in
the box, wandering around the house, the only time he gets skittish
is when he spots the dogs- he is starting to chase the puppy! He
is a really cool cat and I want to thank you and everyone at CARE
for all the help. Janet wasn't joking when she said he likes to be
up high! Have a good day & thanks again. |

Dear CARE, |

This is Aaron Schmidt and Kara Holland. We wanted to let you know
that Bleu is doing incredibly well adjusting to our little home. After
he made a mess of himself in the car, we had to bathe him to get him
clean. He struggled for 2 seconds, then let us wash him completely,
which surprised us both. He has been living in his own room with excursions
into the house. We started with a screen between them, then let them
out after we figured out they wouldn't kill each other. Roxy is trying
to act tough, but is thoroughly interested in everything Bleu does
despite some hissing. They chase each other after a few minutes of
play, and she still doesn't know quite what to do with Bleu, but he
has been great about letting her take control and be the dominant
one of the two. It's almost as if he knows how to let a woman have
her space. Please extend a big thank you to all of the CARE volunteers,
and especially Helen one more time for holding Bleu for us and showing
us her beautiful home. |

I just wanted to send you guys a quick e-mail to let you know that
Splash and Skylar have adjusted well to their new forever home. We
often find ourselves wondering what ever did without them. We love
them very much and as you can see they love each other very much as
well. They love to sleep with us at night. Splash loves shoestrings
and feathers. Skylar loves my hair and the new laser pointer. Man,
that thing is like aerobics for kitties!!! They love it. Thank you
so much for everything you did for us. Please contact us when Andrea
gets some new babies. We would love to have another one. Thanks again!

Dianne, Hi. I just wanted to write you a quick email and let you know
how wonderfully Rowdy has adjusted to our family. There was really
no adjustment period for Rowdy, he immediately made himself at home.
He was purring as soon as I let him out of the carrier and he found
the cats toys and started to play right away. It didn't even bother
him that our cat Teeters wanted nothing to do with him at first, although
that only lasted until Saturday morning. They have been playing with
each other all weekend. Teeters watches over Rowdy and will play with
a toy, but backs off when Rowdy comes along and lets Rowdy play. They
really are doing well. It won't be long til we walk in to find them
curled up asleep side by side. Right now they still sleep near each
other, but keep a little distance between them. My husband loves Rowdy.
He said that Rowdy's eyes look like a mouse, so he gave him the middle
name of "mouse" LOL. Every once in awhile I hear him say "come here
Rowdy Mouse" and the darling kitten comes running. Rowdy has slept
with us both nights and doesn't seem to be bothered by anything. I
woke up Saturday morning to find him asleep between my head and my
husband's head. He manages to fit into any space near us no matter
how small. We are so glad to have him as part of our family. We look
forward to many years of joy that he will bring to our family. Take
care, Heather and Rowdy (meow) |

Robin fell in love with Dianne's little gray foster girl, Smokie,
when she saw her picture on the CARE website. When she came with her
husband to meet the last kitten remaining from a litter of five, it
was an immediate case of mutual affection. Robin had already picked
out a name for this little grey ball of fur, and Hannah she became. |

We have been in our permanent home with our human parents for about
8 years now. As you can see, we really hate each other. Our parents
have foster kitties plus 9 other cats of their own. However, we never
lack for attention. We are lucky, lucky cats! Signed: Jon and Mark

"We adopted Ozzy (formerly "Tuck") from you at the Short Pump
Petsmart on January 6, 2007. He is a very loving cat whom we all fell
in love with immediately. We lost our cat Rosebud in November (she
was 22 years old) and Ozzy has really filled a void and brought much
joy. He sleeps with my 9 year-old daughter at night and sneaks a nap
with our 5-year old laborador retreiver, Lucy, during the day. Thank
you for giving Ozzy a home and caring for him in the months before
he came to live with us! With sincere and heartfelt thanks, The Smith
family" |

"We adopted Thomas (2-3 yr old bulls eye tabby) in Sept. at Short
Pump. We can't imagine life without him- He is our little baby- spoiled
rotten. He loves his new home- and has really warmed up to us- ( Came
out of hiding less than 24 hrs after coming home). Just wanted to
thank C.A.R.E. for bringing this little angel into our lives." |

"The Fields family adopted Phil and Lil (formerly Jangles and
Camille) in December 2006. This brother and sister pair immediately
stole our hearts and took over the house. They love to chase each
other, wrestle, and play hide and seek. We call them our "bookends"
because they are never far apart and always fall asleep in mirror
positions. They are extremely affectionate and love to cuddle with
whoever is napping on the couch. In the photo Lil is on the left and
Phil is on the right. We can't imagine being without them and thank
C.A.R.E for bringing them into our lives." |

Hi Dianne, To update you on my Sammy, he still has the spotted tummy
but it's not as distinct now as his fur is longer. He is sweet as
can be, very affectionate and loving and wants to sit on me at any
chance possible. He is quite petite and likely will stay that way
as he is 6 months now and probably won't grow much more. However,
my other adoptee, Micky, who is about 7 months according to my vet,
is HUGE. Very tall, long and lanky with exceedingly large feet. They
look like Mutt and Jeff, but have bonded beautifully. They romp, wrestle,
fight, play, groom and sleep together. I couldn't ask for more lovable,
delightful companions. Best Regards,
Lee |

Thank you sooo much! Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that
I adopted "Scamp" (now Nibbles) from the litter of 9 week old kittens
on Feb 2nd. Andrea was the foster mother and she was so incredibly
nice! I arranged a time to meet the kittens at her home and fell in
love with all of them but unfortunately could only take home one.
Andrea patiently explained all the paperwork and vet treatments Scamp
had already had and still needs. She also did an excellent job litter
training my kitten. We have had NO accidents in 3 days! My family
is completely in love with our new kitten. I'm including some pics!
Thanks again for your wonderful organization! Lara |

Hi Cheryl and Craig, Here are a few pics of the lad for you. He's
really settled in well now and is an absolute sweety. I don't think
I've ever had such a playful cat as Foster, or such a snuggly one
either. He has me laughing so much at his antics. One of his favourite
games is to have a toy flicked down the stairs. The rule appears to
be that it must get to the bottom. If it stops halfway down, he finishes
the job himself, and that seems to be part of the fun. Once down there
on the lino floor, he bats it around for a while (sharpening his claws
on the doormat in the process) and then picks it up and carries it
back up to have it flicked down again. This can go on for some considerable
time, so I'm glad he 'fetches'! There are 14 steps, so it's good exercise
for him. He also loves to chase a length of string around the house,
up, over and under. He likes the plastic rings that come off products
like milk when you open them too. All but one of the rings we bought
and you sent with him have vanished. He likes them best in the kitchen
on the lino floor and I suspect that when the oven and fridge are
moved, there'll be a collection. We've managed to rescue a few, but
not all. He snuggles with us when the TV is on, or drives himself
batty playing with a soft ball through the slats of the coffee table
shelf. He talks a lot, especially at mealtimes. Other times, he kind
of mutters to himself or us, as if passing an opinion. He's an adorable
little man to be sure, and is in the best of health - certainly as
far as his appetite is concerned. Every trip into the kitchen must
surely mean he's being fed again! I get long dissertations on that
subject. Oh, he's quite smart too. He can't jump on to the kitchen
counters, but where there's a will there's a way. He came at them
from the back route. That involved a chair, a table, a ledge at the
stairwell, a high counter between the dining and kitchen areas, and
a neat drop down on to the counter where I was working. I didn't see
what he was up to until he arrived suddenly. He looked at me and I
looked at him and the word "No" was discussed. Off he went,
muttering to himself. I'm probably glad I didn't understand what he
was saying. I hope all is well with you both and with your feline
family. Take care, Veronica |

HI, Attached is a photo of Dennis snuggling with my boyfriend, Jason!
I adopted him on Saturday from you guys at Petsmart. He's adjusting
well, hiding a little, but comes out and plays and cuddles some, as
you can see. I think he's just wonderful! I'll keep you updated on
his progress as he gets more adjusted to his new forever home! Thanks,
Michelle |
